The Starters

Food for four and two more arrive wanting food?

It happens to us all sooner or later. Today was my turn.

Only thing for it is to conjure up a starter. Today, faced with this problem, I made two store cupboard pâtés/dips:


Drain a tin of chickpeas keeping some of the liquid. Put the chickpeas in the food processor with a clove of garlic that's been put in boiling water for a few minutes – it takes away the raw flavour. Add the juice of a lemon and two very large tablespoons of tahini paste. Zap it in the processor adding olive oil until a very rough paste forms. Then add some of the liquid off the chickpeas to make it smooth(ish)

Tuna Pâté

Put two tins of, drained, tuna in a food processor. Add about 1oz of melted butter, a garlic clove (as above) and a few sprigs of parsley and then Zap until mixed. Add olive/veg oil and mix until reasonably smooth. I use a mix of olive and veg oil as olive alone overpowers the taste.

The dips can be eaten with bread, toast, crackers etc, or as we did, with flat-bread/chapatis.
