New Pub Company

The Morning Advertiser, the licensed trade newspaper, reported yesterday that, “ A new pub company, The Green Wellies Pub Company, has been set up with a view to keeping the country pub alive in Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire”. Anything that stops the demise of so many pubs has to be a good thing. The company says, “The old, traditional pub is becoming increasingly hard to find and what we want to do is help stop this from happening”. Will the pubs really be old traditional pubs? I doubt it. They wouldn't need to have taken on chef Sam Britten, who has worked with Gordon Ramsay and at Sat Bains, to cook the pickled eggs and cheese cobs (rolls for those outside Leicestershire) that was the only food that most traditional country pubs used to sell!

However, it's great to see that they plan to use local produce on their menu. But don't try and tell us that the new breed of pub is traditional – You're having a laugh!
